Designed for education budgets
Classroom stays under $2,000/year — within a teacher's discretionary budget. School stays under $5,000/year — the common threshold for school-level purchases. District stays under $10,000/year — typically avoids the formal RFP process that can delay procurement by months.
Compare to manual transcription
A braille transcription specialist working just 4 hours per week at $50/hour costs approximately $10,400 per year — and that's before benefits. A full-time transcription teacher costs $24,000+ annually. BrailleBuddy delivers unlimited conversions for a fraction of that cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free tier?
No, but every plan includes a 30-day trial with full functionality. No credit card required to start.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. Upgrade anytime and your new features activate immediately. Downgrade at the end of your current billing period.
What happens when my trial ends?
You retain read-only access to your existing materials. Subscribe to any plan to continue converting new documents.
Do you offer purchase orders?
Yes, for School and District tiers. Contact support@lonia.ai to arrange PO-based billing.
Is there a discount for annual billing?
Yes. The Classroom plan at $1,990/year saves approximately 17% compared to monthly billing at $199/month.
Do you offer state-wide or multi-district pricing?
Yes. Volume pricing is available on the District and District+ tiers for state education agencies, regional cooperatives, and multi-district consortia. Contact admin@lonia.ai with your enrollment numbers and we will put a quote together.
What happens to our materials and data if we cancel?
Your account is closed and you can export materials in PDF, BRF, and CSV formats within 30 days. After the export window, data is deleted per the retention schedule in our Data Privacy Agreement. You retain ownership of all uploaded content and converted materials at all times.
Can we run a paid pilot with a single classroom before purchasing?
Yes. The 30-day trial includes full functionality, and most schools start with one teacher of the visually impaired and one classroom before expanding. If you need a longer paid pilot tied to a specific procurement timeline, contact admin@lonia.ai.
How is BrailleBuddy different from Duxbury or BrailleBlaster?
Duxbury and BrailleBlaster are desktop transcription tools with strong translation engines, but they are built for a single transcriber working alone — no multi-user workflow, no student dashboard, no two-way braille-to-text translation. BrailleBuddy is built around the teacher-student loop: assign materials, collect braille work back, and let general education teachers participate without learning braille.
What devices and embossers do you support?
Standard BRF output works with major embossers including Index Braille, Enabling Technologies, and ViewPlus. The application runs in any modern browser on a laptop, tablet, or refreshable braille display paired with a screen reader.
