Accessibility Statement
Accessibility is not a feature — it is a right
BrailleBuddy is built for blind and low-vision students. Accessibility is foundational to everything we build.
Our commitment
BrailleBuddy is committed to meeting WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the entire platform — the marketing site, the application dashboard, and all user-facing features. We design for the people most likely to be excluded, then verify that it works for everyone.
Measures taken
- Semantic HTML: All pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and meaningful structure
- ARIA labels: Interactive elements include appropriate ARIA attributes for screen reader context
- Keyboard navigation: Every feature is accessible using keyboard alone — no mouse required
- Screen reader testing: Tested with NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), and VoiceOver (macOS/iOS)
- Focus indicators: Visible focus rings (3px solid) on all interactive elements
- Color independence: Color is never the sole means of conveying information — text labels, icons, and patterns supplement color
- Contrast ratios: 7:1 for critical content, 4.5:1 minimum for all text
- Reduced motion: Animations and transitions are disabled when the user prefers reduced motion
- Skip navigation: Skip-to-content link on every page
- No time-dependent interactions: No session timeouts, auto-advancing content, or time limits that could exclude users
Known limitations
We are transparent about areas where accessibility may be limited:
- Complex math content: Mathematical notation translated via Nemeth Code may require manual review for complex equations. We are continually improving math translation accuracy.
- Image-based documents: Documents uploaded as scanned images depend on OCR quality. We provide quality guidance during upload, but results vary with scan clarity.
- Third-party integrations: Some external services (payment processing, OAuth providers) have their own accessibility profiles that we cannot fully control.
Report an issue
If you encounter an accessibility barrier in BrailleBuddy, please let us know. We take every report seriously and work to resolve issues promptly.
Email: support@lonia.ai
Please include:
- A description of the barrier you encountered
- The page or feature where it occurred
- Your assistive technology (screen reader, browser, operating system)
Third-party testing
Independent accessibility auditing is planned. We will publish results and any identified remediation steps here when testing is complete.
