These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of BrailleBuddy, a braille translation platform operated by Lonia AI ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using BrailleBuddy at braillebuddy.lonia.ai and app.braillebuddy.lonia.ai, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
If you are using BrailleBuddy on behalf of a school, district, or organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
Description of Service
BrailleBuddy is a web-based braille translation platform for K-12 schools. The service converts classroom documents to braille and converts braille input back to English text. Features include bidirectional translation, interline output, device profiles, classroom workflows, and activity reporting.
Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@lonia.ai if you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account.
If you are an administrator managing accounts for teachers and students, you are responsible for ensuring that your users comply with these Terms.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use BrailleBuddy only for its intended purpose: converting educational materials to and from braille. You may not:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Upload content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
- Use the service to store or transmit malicious code
- Resell or redistribute the service without written authorization
Subscriptions and Billing
BrailleBuddy is offered through paid subscription plans. All plans include a 30-day full-functionality trial. Pricing, plan details, and billing terms are described on the Pricing page.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' written notice. Price changes do not affect the current billing period.
Your Content
You retain ownership of all documents and materials you upload to BrailleBuddy. By uploading content, you grant us a limited license to process, store, and convert that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.
We do not access, review, or use your uploaded content for any purpose other than delivering the service, except as required by law.
Student Data and FERPA
BrailleBuddy is designed to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). When you use BrailleBuddy to process student education records, we act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA. Our handling of student data is described in our Privacy Policy.
Intellectual Property
BrailleBuddy, including its design, code, documentation, and branding, is the intellectual property of Lonia AI. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property except the limited right to use the service as described here.
BrailleBuddy uses the Liblouis open-source braille translation engine, which is licensed under its own terms.
Limitation of Liability
BrailleBuddy is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lonia AI disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Lonia AI shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of BrailleBuddy.
Our total liability for any claim arising from the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting support@lonia.ai. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if required by law.
Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. We will retain your data according to our Privacy Policy and any applicable data retention agreements with your school or district.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and the parties consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of those courts.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes will be communicated via email to account holders at least 30 days before taking effect.
Your continued use of BrailleBuddy after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
